Product Features
Ethyl cellulose (EC) adopts native cellulose as its primary feedstock. It is an organo-soluble cellulose derivative synthesized through multiple chemical conversion procedures and falls under the category of non-ionic cellulose ethers. This material presents as an off-white or pale yellow powdery or granular substance with no odor or flavor.
Ethyl cellulose features low water absorption capacity, outstanding electrical insulating performance, and exceptional resistance against illumination, high temperature, oxidation, humidity, and chemical reagents. The compound is non-combustible and can withstand concentrated alkaline solutions, weak acids, as well as saline liquids. It dissolves readily in organic media including alcohols, ketones, esters, aromatic hydrocarbons, and halogenated hydrocarbons.
Since it is insoluble in water, EC is mainly used as tablet binder and film coating material, etc. It is also used as retarder of framework material for preparing various types of matrix sustained-release tablets, used in hybrid material for preparing coating sustained-release preparation and piller, and used in vitamin and mineral tablets as binder, retarder and moisture proof agent.
