Company Profile

Shanghai Prior Chemical Scientific And Technical Co.LTD. (Grade A Tax Credit) was established in 2016. Leveraging China North Industries Group Corporation (NORINCO GROUP) resources, the company trades military-industrial materials including hydroxyethyl cellulose (HEC), hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose (HPMC), sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), ethyl cellulose (EC), and nitrocellulose (NC).

HEC - Introduction

Hydroxyethyl Cellulose (HEC) is a non-ionic water-soluble cellulose synthesized by alkalization and ethylene oxide of natural cellulose. It appears as white/pale yellow powder, non-toxic and odorless, and serves as a key additive in glass fiber production.


I. Basic Information


 • Preparation Process: Natural cellulose (wood pulp/cotton linter) → Alkalization → Ethylene oxide → Refining → Finished product
Appearance: White/pale yellow fibrous powder or powder
Key Specifications: Softening temperature 135-140℃; Decomposition temperature 205-210℃; Apparent density 0.35-0.61g/ml
II. Core Properties

1. Water Solubility: Soluble in both cold and hot water to form a transparent and stable colloid; Insoluble in common organic solvents.
2. Thickening & Rheology Modification: Significantly increases viscosity at low addition levels, with controllable rheology and thixotropy, facilitating pumping and wetting of glass fiber slurry.
3. Non-ionic Stability: Insensitive to pH value and electrolytes, compatible with alkaline forming system of glass fiber, and no flocculation after long-term storage.
4. Film-Forming & Adhesion: Forms a transparent and tough film, enhances the adhesion between fibers, and improves fiber bundling and strength.
5. Dispersing & Suspending: Stabilizes fillers and additives, prevents sedimentation, and ensures slurry uniformity.
6. Environmental Safety: Non-toxic, non-irritating, and biodegradable.
III. Functions in Glass Fiber Production

1. Sizing Agent/Finish: Acts as a thickener, adhesive and protective colloid, improves fiber lubrication and bundling, and reduces filament breakage and fuzzing.
2. Slurry Stabilization: Maintains the viscosity and dispersion stability of slurry, ensuring consistency of fiber drawing and forming.
3. Process Compatibility: Alkali-resistant, low-foaming and easily soluble, suitable for high-speed fiber drawing and subsequent processes (e.g., drying, weaving).
4. Performance Enhancement: Strengthens the adhesion between fibers, and improves the interface bonding and mechanical properties of composite materials.

1. Glass Fiber Production (Core Application)

    As a key additive in sizing/finish, it acts as thickener, adhesive and protective colloid, improving fiber bundling and lubricity, reducing filament breakage; stabilizes slurry viscosity, adapts to high-speed drawing, and enhances the mechanical properties of glass fiber composites.

2. Coatings & Inks Industry

    Serves as thickener, rheology modifier and suspending agent, improving paint leveling, anti-settling and film-forming properties; suitable for water-based coatings, architectural coatings and industrial inks.

3. Construction Materials

    Used in cement mortar, putty and tile adhesive as water retention agent and thickener, reducing water loss, improving workability and bonding strength, preventing cracking and peeling of mortar.

4. Oilfield Drilling

    Acts as fluid loss reducer and rheology modifier for drilling fluids, controlling mud viscosity, reducing filtrate loss, and protecting oil well borehole walls, applicable to various complex formation drilling.
