Hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC) is a non-ionic cellulose polymer produced from natural cellulose through alkaline catalytic reaction with propylene oxide. Its chemical structure uses cellulose glucose units as the backbone, with hydroxyl groups replaced by hydroxypropyl groups (-OCH₂CH(OH)CH₃). Typical degree of substitution ranges from 0.2 to 1.0, with adjustable molecular weight from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands.
