Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is mainly used as a pharmaceutical excipient in the pharmaceutical field. As a non-toxic and odorless polymer, HPMC is widely used in pharmaceutical formulations, serving functions such as thickening, film formation, binding, and controlled release. It is widely used in the preparation of formulations, including sustained-release agents, suspending agents, controlled-release agents, and stabilizers. It can also be used as a capsule shell material.
- As a binder and disintegrant in tablets: Its swelling coefficient after absorbing water can reach hundreds of times, significantly improving disintegration and dissolution release rates.For example, some studies have shown that replacing the original binder starch paste in ibuprofen formulations with HPMC can effectively improve the dissolution of poorly soluble s and improve tablet quality.
- HPMC can be used as a film coating material: HPMC is a widely used gastric-soluble coating material with good film-forming properties, forming films with suitable strength, transparent coating, and resistance to brittleness. The coating film is relatively stable under light, heat, and certain humidity conditions, and is soluble in organic solvents and water. It has little adverse effect on the disintegration and dissolution of tablets.
- HPMC as a capsule shell material: Currently, HPMC is also commonly used in the preparation of capsule shells. Compared with gelatin capsule shells, it has significant advantages.
